Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Senior ERP Solutions Architect in Albany, New York


The Computing and Information Technology directorate is embarking on a multi-year effort to replace our legacy ERP Human Capital Management and Finance systems. We are seeking a solutions architect who in partnership with business and technology will lead our technical implementation of the selected ERP products and orchestrate the integration of the solutions into our existing ecosystem of digital platforms.


The ERP Solutions Architect is responsible for designing and overseeing the overall structure of an ERP system to ensure it aligns with the organization's business objectives and technology standards. They combine an understanding of business processes with deep technical knowledge to design ERP system configurations (workflows, reports, interfaces, extensions, forms, etc.) that align with the organization’s strategic goals and operational needs. This person will design and oversee the implementation of technology solutions aligned with business needs and the broader enterprise architectural vision. They will partner with business stakeholders, technology leaders, system integrators and agile delivery teams to bring to life fully implemented ERP solutions to the laboratory. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Lead the technical implementation of the ERP Program (Oracle Financials, Workday HCM, and SAP Concur Travel & Expense)

  • Validate that user stories can be translated into practical configurations within the ERP framework

  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders and project teams to translate business needs into technical solutions, ensuring the ERP system supports the organization's long-term goals efficiently

  • Define the technical architecture, integrate ERP components with existing systems, and set guidelines for development and deployment to ensure scalability, performance, and security

  • Serve as liaison to facilitate the design and development of technical solutions between the business stakeholders and solution providers

  • Maintain a deep understanding of ERP capabilities and continuously track functional and technical changes as the vendor evolves the platform

  • Maintain a strong relationship with the ERP provider, engaging in regular communications to stay informed about updates, new features, and best practices, and manage escalations as needed

  • Provide enterprise guidance and big picture thought leadership by delivering current-state architecture documentation, future-state product architecture, contributions to proof-of-concept implementation, and domain-specific application architecture strategy

  • Collaborate with ERP system integrators to oversee solution design and implementation processes

  • Oversee the technical delivery of custom development, integrations, data migration, testing, and documentation elements of implementations

  • Assess technology through the understanding of emerging trends, disruptions, and how it layers onto existing and evolving business practices

  • Provide oversight and support to engineering leads within Agile teams to ensure implementations are cost effective, optimized towards long-term sustainability and support, and align with high-level business objectives

  • Provide counsel on a broad range of technologies, platforms, and vendor offerings to drive targeted business outcomes

  • Work with business leadership and stakeholders to clearly understand business needs

  • Define principles, guidelines, standards, and solution patterns to ensure technical decisions are aligned with the enterprise's future-state architecture

  • Lead the technical evaluation and selection of software products and services

Required Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of Oracle, SAP, and Workday ERP technologies

  • Exceptional interpersonal, collaboration, presentation, and communication skills to be able to communicate with stakeholders of different levels

  • Extensive experience in technical leadership and management oversight on large and/or highly complex projects with high impact and visibility

  • Strong customer focus with ability to interpret and analyze customer requirements

  • Knowledge and experience with Agile practices

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret business needs by understanding drivers and translating problems into actionable technical solutions

  • Proven successful project implementation experience, especially delivering ERP solutions

  • Expertise in data management and integration

  • Extensive Knowledge of IT architecture, infrastructure, and cloud technologies


Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA and 9 years of relevant experience -OR-

  • MS/MA or higher and 7 years of relevant experience -OR-

  • PhD and 5 years of relevant experience -OR-

  • AA and 18 years of relevant experience -OR-

  • HS/GED and 20 years of relevant experience

  • Demonstrated experience applying theoretical/fundamental computer science concepts through the design, development, configuration, implementation, and maintenance of computer infrastructure and networks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven record of multiple successful Oracle, SAP, and Workday implementations

  • Oracle, SAP, and/or Workday Certifications

  • Agile Certifications (e.g., Scrum, SAFe, etc.)

  • Knowledge of DevSecOps practices

Starting pay is calculated from the minimum of the pay range and actual placement in the range is determined based on an individual’s relevant job-related skills, qualifications, and experience.
