College/Unit/Department The University of Georgia College of Veterinary
Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future
veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians,
and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well
as people. The college benefits pets and their owners, food-producing
animals, and wildlife by offering the highest quality hospital and
diagnostic laboratory services. Equipped with the most technologically
advanced facilities located on a university campus, the college is
dedicated to safeguarding public health by studying emerging infectious
diseases that affect both animal and human health. The College of
Veterinary Medicine values all members of the university community,

Diagnostic Laboratory is a fully accredited diagnostic laboratory that
is also a member of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network and
provides services for veterinarians in the State of Georgia and the UGA
Veterinary Teaching Hospital. The pathology section handles
approximately 1,500 necropsies, including a wide variety of species
(dogs, cats, horses, small and large ruminants, New World camelids, and
occasionally other animal species such as pigs, birds, reptiles, etc.),
10,000 biopsies (90% dogs and cats), and 4,000 cytologies per year. The
successful applicant will join a team in the Department of Pathology
that includes 22 pathologists (including 4 clinical pathologists),
anatomic and clinical pathology residents, research scientists, and
graduate students. The department has a passion for pathology and
