Tombigbee Electric Power Association Fiber Technician / Entry Level in Belden, Mississippi

Job Summary and Objectives

This position will work doing primarily residential installations for an initial period before working up to responsibilities of a full Fiber Tech. As a full Fiber Tech, you will be responsible for fiber optic splicing, trouble shooting, diagnostics and analysis of issues and maintenance of our FTTH network. This position will also be responsible for handling trouble calls and customer issues. This position will also do minor construction (pole transfers, pole moves, dead taps, etc....). This position will also assist with complex commercial/ business installs.

 

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  1. Fiber to the home installation, which will require working in attics, basements, crawl spaces and other close quarters.

  2. Fiber optic splicing

  3. Fiber optic troubleshooting, including OTDR and light meter readings

  4. Perform construction related duties (pole transfers, pole moves, dead taps, etc.)

  5. Use positive interpersonal skills for interaction with the customers of Tombigbee Electric Power Association and Tombigbee Fiber, LLC to resolve any issues

  6. Required to be able to work from heights including, pole climbing, ladder work and bucket truck work

  7. Must be able to work an "on-call" schedule.

  8. Must be able to work in inclement weather

  9. Must be able to work with electronic maps, document and maintain records of work performed

  10. Must preserve confidentiality of company issues when relating to staff, customers, and public

  11. Must support bylaws, guidelines, policies and philosophies of Tombigbee at all times

  12. The Fiber Technician shall be required to perform any other duties assigned to fulfill the objectives of the company

  13. Must have general PC and tablet abilities including Microsoft office, Excel and related or similar programs

     

Education

  1. High School or GED equivalent

  2. Some college or post high school education is preferred

  3. Training in fiber slicing, trouble shooting and diagnostics preferred

     

     

Experience

  1. Telecommunications and fiber optics construction, preferred.

  2. Fiber splicing, preferred.

  3. Experience with bucket truck operation, preferred.

  4. Pole climbing experience, preferred.

  5. Home and business install experience, preferred.

  6. Troubleshooting and problem-solving experience, preferred.

  7. Dealing with customers, preferred

  8. CDL or ability to obtain one if requested preferred.

  9. Ability to work with tools, required.
