RNA, Gene Therapy & Delivery is an organization within Therapeutics Discovery, committed to the delivery of high-quality drug candidates in the novel synthetic modalities space working closely with all six Janssen Therapeutic Areas (TA) discovery teams. Our mission requires critical thinking, a portfolio approach and deep scientific expertise in several fields including oligonucleotide chemistry, bioconjugation chemistry, nanotechnology, cellular and molecular pharmacology, and screening technologies coupled with an ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform end-to-end synthesis, downstream processing, and in-process QC of various scales of highly modified oligonucleotides, including siRNA and ASO, to support both discovery portfolio and pre-portfolio projects

  • Optimize methods and improve scale-up capabilities for Oligonucleotide synthesis and purification systems

  • Preparation of buffers and reagents needed for synthesis and purification systems

  • Ensure the supply of laboratory consumables and reagents are in stock as needed

  • Perform LNP formulation for a variety of RNA types at various scales and conduct QC for LNP formulations

  • Provide support to the LNP formulation team with ordering lab materials, making daily buffers, preparing shipments, and labeling and aliquoting samples

  • Maintain a high level of productivity in the laboratory setting.

  • Present data and reports on project status at individual, group, and departmental meetings.

Qualifications

  • M.S. with 1-3 years of experience or a B.S./B.A. with 2-4 years of experience, performing progressively advanced duties at the Assistant Scientist level, or the equivalent training/experience is required.

  • Prior experience in the solid phase synthesis of oligonucleotides and/or nucleoside/nucleotide synthesis and downstream processes is required.

  • Prior experience with LNP formulation and characterization is required.

  • Record of maintaining a strong lab presence is required.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent prioritization and organization skills.

  • Ability to collaborate across teams in a matrix environment is required

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $78,800 to $126,960.
