Job Description:

Title: Senior Project Engineer

Location: 8405 IBM Drive, Charlotte, North Carolina 28262

  • Responsible for engineering, design, development and implementation of new products in accordance with the new product development process. (10%)

  • Coordinate design tasks between internal and external industrial design and design teams. (5%)

  • Compile engineering product development schedule with oversight from the New Product Development Leader and make sure that key engineering deliverables, quality, performance and cost targets are met. (5%)

  • Establish test plans on each product design with the help of the product test engineer. (5%)

  • Ensure approval with UL, CSA and other safety agencies with the help of the agency engineer. (2%)

  • Assist the laboratory with preparation of test units and the analysis of test results. (5%)

  • Work with TTI manufacturing plants and OEMs to ensure that products are constructed properly, that components, assemblies and products are manufacturable and conform to the performance standards. (10%)

  • Interpret feedback from product marketing and consumer research to develop a clear design specification that will be used to define the detailed design and intent of the product. (5%)

  • Work with in-house and overseas engineering, manufacturing teams in the US and/or overseas. (10%)

  • Work with new product development management to report project status to great management team on regular basis. (5%)

  • Work with Legal Team to establish IP clearance. (5%)

  • Facilitate regular team meetings to manage and drive cross functional tasks associated with the development of all aspects of the project from product packaging to components. May manage project team members. (10%)

  • Use Creo PTC software along with prototyping skills to lead the pre-development concept phase of the project. (10%)

  • Create breadboard models, refine proof of concept prototypes and complete assembly layouts. (5%)

  • Test and troubleshoot in the lab. (3%)

  • Team with Industrial Designers and Marketing Teams to deliver products that maintain cosmetic intent while meeting all functional requirements. (5%)

Requirements:

Master’s or equivalent degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Electrical Engineering, and 2 years of relevant experience as a Project Engineer, Application Engineer or related; OR Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Mechanical, Aeronautical, or Electrical Engineering, and 5 years of relevant experience as a Project Engineer, Application Engineer or related.

Experience must include:

• Working in a new product development team environment and 3D part design and model building.

• Plastic part design, electromechanical product design/testing, and molding constraints.

• Working on cross function product teams and working on multiple projects simultaneously.

• Mold flow simulation, plastic tooling construction, FEA, or CFD.

• Providing design solution/direction that improves product reliability and meets all project requirements including cost, performance, and schedule.

• Developing Value Analysis/Cost Analysis and quality improvements opportunities, prioritizing and developing a plan for implementation.

• FMEA product analysis.

• Hands on assembly of prototypes, products, or disassembly of competitive products.

Approximately 10% domestic and international travel required.
