POSITION SUMMARY
Under direction, performs various management support activities, including data extraction, cleaning, interpretation, analysis, and presentation. Establishes data analysis tools to support the Safety Management System and inform decision making. Develops and tracks meaningful performance indicators to assess safety risks and security vulnerabilities, mitigations, and provide recommendations for corrective action plans and process improvement initiatives. Creates, manages, and utilizes various data collection tools, such as forms and databases, conducts special studies and ensures data, process, and record integrity.

Analyzes and interprets safety data using standard statistical methods and drafts clear and concise management reports.
Analyzes safety data to create routine reports for use by safety officers and managers throughout the authority.
Performs analysis of safety programs and policies, documentation, processes, and procedures.
Combines safety data with other disparate sources of data (operational, employee-related, financial, etc.) to examine and explain safety performance, trends, and issues for consideration by Authority managers, leaders, and executives.
Collaborates with other analysts, subject matter experts, and program stakeholders to analyze relationships between safety policies, programs and procedures, and other management policies, programs and procedures (operational, administrative, financial, etc.).
Creates presentations, spreadsheets, graphs, and charts to illustrate findings; and draft clear and concise reports for technical and non-technical audiences.
Develops meaningful performance metrics that result in organizational and service improvements.

Performs audits and investigative research to provide recommendations for corrective action plans and process improvement initiatives.
Conducts independent and collaborative research and benchmarking to help identify new or innovative approaches to safety.
Designs, implements, tests, and documents new and revised safety programs, processes, and procedures.
Designs, implements, tests, and improves methods, tools, and routines as needed to obtain useful information to evaluate or suggest safety improvements.

Meets with stakeholders to determine data and information needs.
Monitors operational impact of management decisions based on data and analytics presented, identifies opportunities to improve data collection, analysis, and reporting procedures.
Develops and manages data and information management and analysis tools, such as data collection forms, databases, and Safety Department internal site.
Coordinates and conducts field observations, audits, surveys, etc.

Ensures data integrity and accuracy by implementing quality controls. Confirms information is being correctly applied. Utilizes document management systems to ensure users have access to correct versions and history.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Information Technology, Quantitative Analysis, Planning and Policy, Safety or a related field, minimum (2) years of experience in data management, data analysis, or process or program analysis, or a combination of education and experience relating to this position.
Experience with SQL, R, Python, AWS, Redshift, PowerBI, ArcGIS, with advance skills in MS Excel.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires sitting for extended periods of time, standing, visual acumen, manual dexterity, and fingering for working with computer keyboards.

Service Area Requirement: Exempt (Non-Union) employees must live within the boundaries of the CTA Statutory Service Area either at the time of employment or within 6 months of beginning employment at CTA.

Ability to perform SQL queries, and working knowledge of database configuration, data visualization and business intelligence concepts.
Working knowledge of data analysis and data compilation techniques with an understanding of basic statistical concepts.

Working knowledge of research methods and report presentation.
Working knowledge of safety concepts or transit operations desired.

WORKING CONDITIONS
General office environment.
Required to travel to various field locations and transit facilities.
May be required to work various extended or irregular hours (including afternoons or night shifts) in order to respond to CTA related issues.
Subject to normal garage/shop conditions such as noise, dust, grease, moving vehicles, etc. when visiting field locations.
