VOAC supports veteran’s efforts to exit homelessness as well as provides a safe place for survivors of domestic violence. **The Volunteer Specialist at the Mission Community Center is responsible for the oversight of the volunteers, front desk; and clothing closet in collaboration with the Program Coordinator and under the direction of the Program Manager. The Volunteer Specialist supports the Program Coordinator’s efforts in service provisions: assisting the participants; food distribution; referrals; community resources and developing programming and onsite community partners to meet community needs. Job duties include greeting guests, answering the phone, supporting visitor needs, volunteer orientation and assignment, maintaining donations and organizing the clothing/resource closet, posting notifications as needed; maintaining a clean, orderly and sanitary environment; monitoring the milieu during rest and relaxation for participants experiencing homelessness or food insecurity; maintaining the safety and wellbeing of all persons. Service modalities include Trauma Informed Care, Harm Reduction, Motivational Interviewing and Crises De-escalation. All staff are responsible for ensuring a professional and compassionate environment and supporting the work of the ministers and volunteer services on site. The Volunteer Specialist is cross trained and able to cover the Program Coordinator duties in their absence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Ensures that the participant’s voice is heard, and when appropriate the resident’s ideas play a prominent role in programming.
· Responsible for possessing an in-depth knowledge regarding program requirements, including support services, and field-relevant best practices.
· Demonstrates knowledge of participant-specific resources, a passion for serving the population and people experiencing homelessness, and the ability to contribute to the program-wide objectives of a diverse and dynamic team.
· In conjunction with the Agency-wide Volunteer Program, recruits, trains and supervises Mission volunteers and provides them with daily guidance, by embracing, engaging, encouragement, and support.
· Coordinates and works closely with volunteers to accomplish long/short-term Mission goals and objectives.
· Participates in monthly volunteer and staff meetings.
· Supports special projects.
· Researches and stays abreast of available community resources and assists clients with appropriate referrals.
· In conjunction with program staff, offers continuous support and encouragement to clients and works with Mission team to help “client volunteers” become self-sufficient and transition from homelessness.
· Provides coverage (opening & closing Mission doors) when and where necessary; helps with general upkeep of building; report any repair needs and maintenance issues in a timely manner.
· Mentor volunteers and clients through effective leadership ministry of service.
· Interacts courteously and professionally with all people and resolves conflicts quickly.
· Responsible for collecting and reporting on Volunteers hours groups, individuals, and RSVP.
· Attends meetings as requested by the Program Manager.
· Performs job responsibilities in accordance with the Health Department regulations and Social Work Code of Ethics.
· Performs all other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements.
· Ability to be single staffed while in the facility while having the responsibility for the safety of up to 100 participants.
· Ability to move quickly and safely to do perimeter checks, and in cases of an emergency.
· Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. 10 to 15 times per day.
· Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Salary: $19.00-$21.00/hr
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work: Part time Monday – Thursday 8:30am – 4:00pm and Sunday 11:00am-1:30pm
May be required to work special event hours or help cover absences

Minimum Qualifications of Position
· High School Diploma or GED equivalent
· Good organizational and planning skills; works well as part of a team.
· ServSafe Certified or the ability to becoming certified within three months of hire.
· First Aid/CPR certified or ability to become certified within three months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications of Position
· Preferred experience in volunteer administration or service as a volunteer.
· Experience working with individuals experiencing chronic homelessness, severe and persistent mental health concerns, and case management experience.
· Residential experience and/or milieu management.
· Crises intervention skills
· One year of supervisory or administrative experience.
· Bilingual English and Spanish.
Knowledge and Skills
· Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
· High level of competency working with Microsoft Office suite and cloud-based applications.
· Strong time-management and prioritization skills.
· Experience working both independently and in a collaborative environment.
· Strong organization skills.
· Must have the ability to present and communicate professionally.
Salary Description
$19.00-$21.00/hr
