We are looking for a Senior Power Systems Consultant to join Grid Software’s Power Technologies International (PTI) team. This role is critical to the planning and integration of renewables, storage, and FACTS to the electrical grid and to perform large-scale simulations of electrical transmission systems for clients such as power producers, independent system operators, and transmission providers—particularly clients in Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) footprint—to develop solutions for safe and reliable power system operations.

This is a remote position based in the Contiguous U.S.

You’ll make an impact as you:

  • Perform transmission planning through the application of power systems planning principles to simulate and analyze the power system steady state and dynamic behavior, with a focus on the WECC footprint.

  • Prepare detailed written reports describing analyses performed, conclusions, and recommendations.

  • Work in small project teams, ensuring deliverables are of high quality and projects are completed within budget and schedule.

  • Develop automation scripts to improve the speed and accuracy of simulations and analysis.

  • Support proposal preparation by developing project plans, budgets, and timelines.

  • Deliver on-site technical consulting/training services.

  • Attend conference meetings, particularly in WECC footprint; proactively develop new clients and business.

You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in or higher in power systems engineering, or electrical engineering with a specialization in power and energy systems.

  • A minimum of 5 years of proven experience in the electric power industry. Advanced electrical engineering degree with Power and Energy Systems specialization MAY be substituted for professional experience.

  • Experience working with or supporting utilities in the WECC footprint required.

  • Candidate must have knowledge of transmission system planning or operations with experience analyzing power flow and dynamic stability using PSS®E, PSLF, PowerWorld, TARA, and/or PSCAD; electromagnetic transients (EMT) analysis preferred.

  • Ability to travel 10% domestically.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Transmission system planning or operations experience in MISO, SPP, NYISO, ISO-NE, PJM considered a plus.

  • Industry experience performing distribution planning and/or production costing considered preferred.

  • Industry experience performing power system protection preferred.

  • Industry experience performing power system transient analysis using PSCAD/EMTDC or EMTP-RV preferred.

  • The salary range for this position is $81,130 - $169,680. An annual incentive target also is part of the compensation package for this position. The actual wage offered may be lower or higher depending on budget and candidate experience, knowledge, skills, qualifications, and premium geographic location.
