DNV GL Approval Engineer Fire safety and Life Saving TA/MED in Gdynia, Poland

DNV’s section for Fire Safety & Life-Saving CMC is looking for an approval engineer to join our section, in Hamburg, Gdynia or Høvik. The Fire Safety & Life-Saving CMC section is part of the Approval Centre in DNV Maritime Ship Classification. The Approval Centre Europe is approving ship newbuildings and conversions to ensure that they comply with international requirements, for all relevant technical disciplines. In addition, approval of components and equipment placed onboard is carried out here. The Approval Centre Europe also has an important role in developing applicable requirements, rules and standards.

As an approval engineer in our unit, you will become part of a highly qualified team focusing on fire safety and life-saving arrangements onboard ships. We are working with various ship types, such as cargo ships, passenger ships, naval vessels and high-speed light crafts. Our responsibilities span over a broad range of tasks which provides a great deal of diversity as well as deep insight into statutory matters. The focus on decarbonization, digitalization and automation also affect our work. As we are responsible for the technical content of DNV’s governing documents for fire safety and life-saving we develop new and existing requirements continuously. This is done in cooperation with other technical disciplines internally, with flag administrations and other contributors in the maritime industry. The rule development work provides our section with deep insight into DNV rules and class notations, different maritime codes and international industry standards and regulations.

We are looking for 2 engineeres to join our team. Both newly graduated and more exprienced candidates are welcome to apply.

Key working tasks include (but are not limited to):

  • Certification (Type Approval, MED – Marin Equipment Directive, MER – Marine Equipment Regulation UK) of fire safety and life-saving equipment for all types of ships

  • Customer interaction through correspondence and meetings

  • Technical support to customers and our DNV stations around the world

  • Some travelling may be expected, however most meetings are now on Teams (video meeting)

Qualifications:

  • MSc or BSc within Naval Architecture/Mechanical Engineering or other relevant disciplines, preferably with competency in Fire safety and life-saving.

  • Thorough, with good analytical skills

  • Customer oriented

  • Result driven

  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English

  • Team player with a positive attitude who strive to obtain results for the team

  • Motivated and eager to expand your skills

  • Dedication for safe ship systems and innovative solutions, high integrity

It is expected that training for acquiring the relevant MTAS (competence confirmation element) shall be provided by us, so that in due time the successful candidate will be able to work independently and provide high-quality solutions to our internal and external customer’s challenges within the framework of our rules and instructions.
