Brief Position Overview

The Montana State University-Northern ( MSUN ) Bookstore is currently accepting applications for a Storekeeper.

This position is responsible for a variety of tasks to support the overall smooth functioning of the bookstore. Duties include stocking, inventory, cashiering, and customer service. Also responsible for processing of web orders. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends. Fill in when needed for vacations, etc.

Position Details

General Statement

This position is responsible for a variety of tasks to support the overall smooth functioning of the bookstore. Duties include stocking, inventory, cashiering, and customer service. Also responsible for processing of web orders. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends. Fill in when needed for vacations, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist customers in purchasing books and merchandise by a variety of methods such as cash, check, credit cards, and or account sales. Use of computerized POS cash register required. In the absence of the manager, process, balance the daily receipts and deposit at the Business Office. Maintain needed denominations of cash and change as needed.

  • Assist customers in locating books and merchandise. Familiarity with bookstore layout necessary. Process special orders, making coffee, and deliveries. Answer telephones and emails. Respond to customer needs and questions in an appropriate manner.

  • Simple cleaning duties such as, vacuuming, dusting, emptying trash bins, keep store and office area tidy, etc. on a daily basis as needed.

  • Arrange main shopping area on a weekly basis to attractively display clothing items. Ensure store is fully stocked at all times. Communicate any shortage of merchandise immediately to supervisor.

  • Process web and phone orders daily. Handle any discrepencies or problems as needed.

  • Check in, secure, scan books/supplies for correct price and place books/supplies on the shelves. Store excess supplies in back room area.

  • Assist in ordering books, apparel and supplies.

List any secondary duties assigned to this position:

  • Maintain inventory of bookstore and report discrepancies to Bookstore Manager as needed. Assist with inventory of all inventory items annually.

  • Process returns according to vendor policy.

  • Train and assist student staff.

    Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Knowledge and use of Microsoft Office programs

  • Team Player

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Good organization and priority skills

  • Effective communication skills

  • Must be able to lift items up to 50 lbs; standing for long periods

    Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience in a bookstore or in retail

  • Experience working on a college campus

  • Knowledge of Winprism Database
