GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
This safety sensitive (SS) position is responsible for the care and
maintenance of the kennel area. Health and welfare of quarantined and
adoptable animals, to include animals involved in criminal cases.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Cleans and disinfects kennels. This duty is performed daily.
2. Feeds and waters animals. This duty is performed daily.
3. Performs initial intake on all animals, medical evaluation, drawing
blood for testing, administering vaccinations, and treating minor
illnesses. This duty is performed daily.
4. Prepares animals for adoption. This duty is performed daily.
5. Cleans equipment, i.e. cages, traps, and travel kennels. This duty
is performed daily.
6. Performs kennel maintenance and small repairs. This duty is
performed daily.
7. May also perform or assist with the task of euthanasia and sedation
of animals. This duty is performed as needed.
8. Provides maintenance on grounds. Operates mower, weed eater, sprayer
and pressure washer. This duty is performed as needed.
9. Operates a city vehicle for essential functions. This duty is
performed as needed.
10. Oversees volunteers, public service workers, including inmate
labor. This duty is performed as needed.
11. May occasionally perform desk duties and assist the dispatcher by
dispatching calls for service through the police radio system, running
criminal history checks, and conducting vehicle and warrant checks for
Animal Control Officers. This duty is performed as needed.
12. Transport and disposal of deceased animals to an appropriate
location.This duty is performed weekly or as needed.
13. Submits animals on Facebook, keeps the public aware of lost or
found pets and pets for adoption. This duty is performed daily
*14. Research databases from ACIC/NCIC, local utility companies, and
other information areas in an attempt to reunite pets and owners.This
duty is performed daily or as needed.*
*15. Access to animal narcotics, animal medications, and medical
supplies. Monitoring these supplies and inventory, reporting needs to
the Director or Senior ACO.*This duty is performed daily.
**16. Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
