Under general supervision, facilitates the day-to-day clinical care and services rendered. Oversees the continuity of individualized, age-specific patient care. In addition, will function as an educator and resource for nursing staff to develop, to organize, and to implement all educational needs and requirements. Continually assures clinical exchange with physicians, staff, Unit Manager, and Nursing Director.
Duties and Responsibilities
Investigates concerns/complaints promptly and effectively, utilizing appropriate chain of command, completes appropriate documentation.
Facilitates nurse/physician rounds to assure patients are informed of and included in their plan of care and discharge plan.
Assesses and coordinates staffing needs for current and upcoming shifts; utilizes resources to provide for changing care needs in crisis and emergency situations. Maintains clinical skills to assume duties of a staff RN as needed for shift coverage, breaks, meals, etc.
Assists with the admission and discharge process.
Participates in daily huddle with the primary nurse, communicating the clinical concerns and action plan of the patient in meeting the discharge plan.
Assists with patient flow between the Unit and other departments.
Assists with ANSOS including, but not limited to, creating a schedule, day to day staffing, and payroll.
Supports and holds staff accountable for following the standards of care and customer excellence. Participates in committees.
Reviews policies and procedures on an annual basis providing evidence-based revisions when needed to keep policies updated.
Reviews documentation for accuracy to assure quality patient care as well as meeting the guidelines for core measures and meaningful use.
Provides daily staff mentoring related to their specific assignment. Assures assignments are based on staff expertise and educational needs to ensure consistent quality patient care.
Provides the initial clinical education and direct observation based on the new orientee's skill level related to basic nursing care. In addition, works directly with the licensed staff during their orientation in developing their clinical skills and critical thinking. Assesses and reassesses the progress of the orientee on a weekly basis. Assures the orientation packet is completed prior to the orientee assuming an independent role.
Develops teaching/preceptor skills of others by education, training, and by developing an environment of learning.
Evaluates effectiveness and revises unit-based orientation as needed on an annual basis in collaboration with the Unit Manager.
Participates in Quality Improvement endeavors through monitoring of patient care outcomes.
Assumes responsibility for Customer Experience according to the organizations established goals.
Oversees the operations of the Unit(s) in the absence of the Unit Manager.
Qualifications
Minimum Experience:
2 - 3 years in clinical nursing
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Required Certification:
Registration and current RN license in PA; Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; ACLS certification (ACLS not required if assigned to the Wound Center)
Skills:
Strong computer skills. Demonstrated ability to be self-directed with excellent organizational, analytical, writing, and interpersonal skills
Actively pursuing Bachelor’s Degree if doesn’t already have this qualification
