The Senior Facilities Controls Robotic Automation Engineer is responsible for identifying and setting up automation within various manufacturing processes. The processes may be assembly, fabrication or logistical applications that govern the production and delivery of products. Automation engineers perform a critical function of streamlining the manufacturing processes and making them as efficient as possible, while still maintaining product quality and adhering to internal protocols and external regulations. Accountable for full technical ownership of the assigned area. As the Controls/Robotics Automation Engineer

you will work with a team of Union skilled trades maintenance technicians, hourly Team Leaders, Process Improvement Engineers, Quality and Business Leaders. In this role you will make critical engineering decisions with regards to equipment and processes needed to meet the goals of the area.

How You'll Create Possibilities

  • Provide technical leadership, program management, and expertise to Plant Operations, including providing leadership and direction to the maintenance team

  • Select the appropriate instruments to sense, measure and/or monitor system variables

  • Root cause-based troubleshooting, schematic reading, PLC's and ladder logic programming, variable frequency drives, Ethernet communications, Vision Systems and safety procedures such as Lock Out -Tag Out

  • Support all plant objectives in the areas of EHS, Schedule Attainment, Spoilage & Yield, Labor & Overtime, Productivity, Spare Parts cost controls and Lean Manufacturing

  • Execute routine equipment purchases, to include presenting justification for capital expenses or process improvements, design and specification of equipment and standardization of equipment within manufacturing methods and safety requirements

  • Simulate, install test and manage electrical/mechanical automation and finally monitoring the automation processes on an ongoing basis

  • Develop and maintain clear and accurate documentation of automation equipment or processes

  • Train staff, operations team and maintenance organization where necessary upon implementing new processes, commissioning new equipment, or making changes to existing systems

  • Troubleshoot automated processes or equipment when not performing and at times assist maintenance in the same function

  • Initiate and integrate activities to resolve repetitive production problems and implement preventive maintenance programs on key pieces of equipment to improve process output reliability

  • Provide leadership to hourly maintenance employees to ensure day-to-day production requirements

  • Establish measured work practices for maintenance employees, to include documentation of work performed and the time required to perform it

  • Provide training and aid in troubleshooting and downtime response in a specified area of expertise

  • Drive uptime and equipment reliability improvements through simplification activities

  • Own the 5S in the area and enforce adherence

What You'll Bring to Our Team

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other technical Bachelor’s Degree

  • Minimum 5 years of support operations or maintenance supervision experience

  • Ability to implement long-term plans into day-to-day operations

  • Skills to include interpersonal, facilitation, positive multi-level verbal/written communication and team building Demonstrated Project Management skills

  • Proven Mechanical and Electrical/PLC Diagnostic and Technical Skills required

  • Proven PLC Controls/Electrical troubleshooting a must

  • Excellent computer skills particularly in programming and software development, specifically experience in programming of robotic systems and writing PLC codes (Rockwell (Allen-Bradley), Siemens, GE, and other industry standard PLC platforms for example)

  • Proven shop floor troubleshooting skills

  • Proven problem-solving skills

  • Previous supervisory experience and/or experience working directly with high volume manufacturing Production Operations and Union Operators

  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills through coaching, training and positive influencing

  • Position supports 24/7 manufacturing facilities. Occasional off shift, on call and weekend work may be required

  • Robotics Applications knowledge

  • Robot Kinematics/Dynamics knowledge

  • Robot Motion Planning and Off-line Programming knowledge

  • Design/Automation/new product launch background a plus

  • Self-motivated: ability to balance multiple priorities and effectively determine level of responsiveness and resource allocation

  • Skilled Union trades management experience
