The Industrial Maintenance Technician I is a full-time opportunity for an entry level maintenance position made available to trade school graduates who major in Electronics, Mechatronics, Electro-Mechanical, and other approved Industrial Maintenance programs. The goal of the program is to provide a "bench" for multi-craft skills. The 18 to 24 month program consists of 6 to 8 month rotations at several ELLWOOD Business Units in their specific regions. The Program will afford the employee the opportunity to gain experience with the different equipment and processes used by ELLWOOD. They will gain a mastery of diverse skills to troubleshoot, repair, install, and maintain production equipment.
The participant will be considered an ELLWOOD Group Inc. employee in as much as their compensation and terms of employment are managed by ELLWOOD Group Inc. Once all rotations are complete, the individual will have the opportunity to be placed in a full-time maintenance position at one of the ELLWOOD Business Units based on job availability and satisfactory completion of pre-employment requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor and/or other maintenance employees, the Industrial Maintenance Technician 1 will train on the following duties and responsibilities during their program rotations:
- Observe all safety rules and regulations;
- Perform PM tasks, condition monitoring, and predictive maintenance to prevent equipment breakdowns. Understands Predictive Technologies, Thermography, and Vibration in order to reduce repair costs and downtime;
- Inspect equipment, motors, and vehicles for defects, misalignment, wear, excessive vibration, etc.;
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, combustion, and electrical problems to determine and correct root cause of problem or failure;
- Use math and computer skills to interpret data trends and logs;
- Assist in failure analysis of recurring problems and make recommendations for shutdowns for emergency repairs or major rebuilds;
- Use proper tools and equipment to dismantle, clean, repair, and reinstall equipment or components;
- Build and install safety equipment such as guards and railings;
- Analyze drawings, wiring diagrams, electrical and hydraulic schematics for troubleshooting, repair, calibration, modification, and installation of new equipment;
- Understand and interpret weld symbols, filler metal selection, joint preparation, and general fabrication practices;
- Service all types of electronic devices and electronic control systems;
- Sketch parts or designs and construct adaptations or conversions of component parts;
- Perform furnace refractory repairs and replacement as required;
- Operate mobile equipment as needed;
- Complete all required maintenance/service records to effectively convey ideas and information both in written and oral form;
- Perform work in accordance with all regulatory documentation and specifications;
- Make positive progress during the rotation duration as to general maintenance competencies and productivity;
- Abide by all policies and procedures established by the company;
- Meet attendance requirements; and
- Perform other duties as deemed necessary.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum- Proof of Trade School graduation in Electronics, Electrical, Mechatronics, Electro-Mechanical or other Industrial Maintenance program.
- Previous Experience in mechanical, electrical and electronic systems repair in industrial setting is preferred but not required.

- The employee must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and use tools and equipment such as power hand tools, pneumatic tools, welding tools, motorized equipment, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee is required to sit, stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The work environment has moderate noise level. The employee must be able to hear to communicate with other team members.
- Working conditions require the employee to work inside and outside, in different temperature ranges, in confined spaces, excessive heights, and in areas exposed to dust, gases, chemicals, grease/oils, etc.
Schedule
- Schedule may vary week to week based on work load and include rotating shifts.
