NBC Universal Legal Internships – Fall 2023 & Academic Year in New York, New York

Because we know it can be challenging to balance coursework and internship commitments, we offer interns paid time off for mental health, school exams, and personal holidays. 

To meet students where they are, we will host internships in both a virtual and in-person format. Opportunities listed will either be in-person based on the location mentioned or virtual, depending on business needs. Some of our internship opportunities that begin in September will continue through the Academic Year and end in April. Please be sure to read this job description carefully and note the internship dates, locations, and departments before applying.   

Academic Year Internship Program: 

  • Applications Close: June 9, 2023 at 11:59pm ET. Pro Tip: Submit your application as soon as possible – don't delay! 

  • Program Dates: September 18, 2023 – April 19, 2024  

  • Time Commitment: 16-24 hours per week. Exact schedule to be determined based on business need. We will do our best to accommodate course schedules.

The below opportunities listed offer an extended internship experience which will span the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters. Working over winter break will not be required. 

Areas of placement may include, but are not limited to: 

  • NBCU News Group: The NBCUniversal Law Department seeks a current law student for a full academic year internship with the department’s News Group, which supports NBC News, MSNBC, CNBC, Telemundo, E! News and the Owned Television Stations on content matters including pre-broadcast and pre-publication review, defamation, newsgathering, copyright, First Amendment issues and other aspects of media law. The intern will get experience in the full range of our work, including legal research, responding to subpoenas, public records requests, and drafting and reviewing basic production contracts. 

Basic Requirements: 

  • Must be actively enrolled in a degree-granting program at an accredited institution during the entire duration of the program. 

  • In pursuit of a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited Institution and be able to provide documentation to confirm your degree progress.   

  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship by NBCUniversal. 

  • Must be working from a location within the United States during all hours worked.


Desired Characteristics: 

  • Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.  

  • Current class standing of 2L or above.   

  • Coursework and legal experience with an entertainment company or firm.  

  • Strong research and writing skills.  

  • Interest in the journalism, broadcast, digital media, and telecommunications industries    

  • Commitment to building an inclusive work environment.  


The hourly rate for JD student interns is $25.00.
