Robert Half is seeking a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join a dynamic team for one of their clients in the Portsmouth market. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of experience in both public and private companies, with a preference for prior experience in public accounting. We are looking for a strategic thinker who excels at diving into details, multitasking effectively, and seeing projects through to completion.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the general ledger and financial reporting process for assigned areas, including conducting month-end and year-end closings.

  • Prepare monthly journal entries for entry into the general ledger system, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial data. Analyze and allocate costs and provide audit trail support for journal entries.

  • Conduct detailed analysis of general ledger accounts for accuracy and analyze accrual accounts to ensure proper expensing and estimation.

  • Collect and analyze financial data to prepare monthly financial statements and management reports. Provide additional analysis as needed for explanations required in management reports.

  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance efficiency and accuracy in recording transactions in the general ledger and subledgers.

  • Assist in maintaining and applying internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.

  • Generate ad-hoc financial reports and complete analytical projects in a timely and accurate manner.

  • Reconcile monthly balance sheet accounts with appropriate support and backup documentation.

  • Support reviews of contracts for application of accounting policy.

  • Gain understanding of and assist with federal, state, and local governmental regulatory filings.

  • Undertake other projects as assigned by Management.

  • Serve as a liaison with the company's external CPA firm for annual audits, including responsibility for preparing working papers for the audit.

    Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA designation preferred.

  • 5+ years of combined experience in public and private companies, with prior experience in public accounting preferred.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to think strategically and dive into details.

  • Proven ability to multitask and manage multiple projects to completion.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, GP Dynamics, SAP) and Microsoft Excel.

  • Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy in work.
