On behalf of the European Space Agency, we are looking for a highly skilled Space System Engineering Training Coordinator to work in ESTEC, in the Netherlands.
What is expected from you:
The tasks cover the support to the definition, design, coordination, delivery and evaluation of an 18-month course on Space Systems Engineering. This include an initial phase focussed on:
the high-level design of the programme, including the participant selection process;
an iterative process covering the detailed design, development and delivery of the various 1-week training courses that together will form the full programme, including:
course design & development,
course delivery, and
course evaluation and feedback.
Final evaluation of the programme and lessons learned.
These programme elements will be gradually developed in parallel to the start of the programme delivery.
Detailed tasks:
Perform a thorough analysis of current Space System Engineering training opportunities within and outside ESA;
With guidance from the ESA Academy and a governance board, define clear objectives, structure, content, requirements, schedules, formats, trainer and participant profiles, delivery methods, timelines, and resource estimates for the training courses;
Design and develop a detailed course outline, including module breakdowns, topics to be covered, time and resources allocations for each module;
Support the definition of the systems engineering application process;
In accordance with the course outline, identify the most suitable individuals for the development and the delivery of the training modules;
Develop and assist experts / lecturers with training session plans, templates and trainer guides and participants' documents;
Liaise with the experts / lecturers across multiple ESA Directorates and monitor training material development;
Support the design of engaging and interactive sessions, group activities and learning materials, incorporating multimedia elements, to enhance understanding and retention.
Review proposed lectures, workshops, case-studies and exercises from a didactic standpoint;
Coordinate dry-runs to ensure the training's learning objectives, format, sequence, and content are consistent and effective;
Coordinate the governance board meetings and the evaluation processes;
Coordinate the general organisation and delivery of training courses, including the identification and preparation of the training facility and any required software tools and/or training equipment (e.g. satellite models), and support to the course and participants' logistics;
Prepare the process for staff applications, and coordinate the review and the evaluation of the applications, and the selection process;
Attend most of the lectures and provide constructive didactic feedback for future editions;
Coordinate with ESA HR the inclusion of the training in the required online catalogues, and the preparation of the certificates of participation and transcripts;
Conduct, at the end of each module, assessments to evaluate learner progress; solicit feedback and conduct surveys to identify and resolve any issues or inconsistencies in the course organization and conduct and implement them for the next iteration of the course;
Propose and implement improvements in terms of content, format, duration, schedule, participants' profile and training material based on the feedback;
Maintain the training material and participants' databases and statistics;
Identify training content suitable for e-learning and potential online course development;
Contribute inputs to the meetings and brainstorming sessions of the Education Office, for the training programme in particular, and to the design and implementation of cross-unit (STEM-Academy) activities, when so requested by ESA;
Support outreach initiatives and activities carried out by the ESA Education Office outreach team;
Participation in TEC-X meetings as appropriate;
Ensure approvals of all material and decisions are done according to agreed ESA processes.
Interaction and collaboration, both within and outside ESA, with providers, partners, field experts and stakeholders who contribute to the definition and delivery of the activities of relevance, in particular – but not exclusively - the ESA Communication Office and the ESA Human Resources Department for corporate promotion and participants selection;
Support and provision of inputs to the preparation and/or implementation, and in accordance to ESA processes, guidelines, templates and inputs, of:
relevant procurement actions, including drafting related documentation and participating as external expert in Tender Evaluation Boards (if any)
Personal Data Protection documentation
legal documentation (e.g. agreements)
area-relevant meetings and events
promotion, communication/outreach activities, events and campaigns for the Tasks of concern
participation statistics & data collection and impact assessment (qualitative and quantitative) of the activities.
the transversal support to other system engineering training activities organised by the TEC Directorate, where this WP's area of expertise is concerned/required;
What you offer:
Minimum Education Background: Master's degree
Minimum 5 years of relevant CDF experience
Experience in providing courses is an asset
The candidate shall be comprised of engineers with degree qualifications or equivalent in Physics, Engineering or Computer Science.
The candidate shall have competences consistent with the tasks to be performed, including:
Proven experience in project management;
Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience in, training design, development delivery and/or evaluation;
Proven ability to effectively coordinate contributions from several different parties and maintain effective working relationships with partners, contributors and stakeholders internal and external to ESA;
Excellent personal communication, planning and organizational skills, spirit of collaboration and initiative, service and result-oriented; diplomacy and ability to operate in an institutional environment;
Fluency in written and spoken English;
Proficiency in writing reports and giving effective presentations.
Proficiency and experience with space systems engineering including, but not limited to topics such as project management, spacecraft design, mission analysis and system engineering processes.
Familiarity with spacecraft operations, Earth observation missions, space science missions, global navigation satellite systems, telecommunications, and human spaceflight.
Furthermore experience with e-learning authoring tools and instructional design can be highly valuable.
