Orlando Utilities Commission Facilities Maintenance Technician in Orlando, Florida

OUC - The Reliable One , an industry leader and the second largest municipal utility in Florida committed to serving the community and the environment, is presently seeking a Facilities Maintenance Technician to join the Financial & Support Services division.

We are looking for a knowledgeable & self- starter to perform preventative and maintenance repairs for OUC facilities and properties including, but not limited to, painting, drywall and wallpaper repair, door lock systems, plumbing and irrigation repair, minor electrical repairs, knowledge of HVAC systems, alarm systems, elevator operation, and landscaping.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum of five (5) years of facilities experience or educational equivalent.

  • Must have a Florida Class "A" Commercial Driver's License or ability to obtain one within 6 months.

  • Electrical or skilled carpentry knowledge is preferred

Salary Range: Starting at $25.84 per hour (Estimated $53,753 annually) with a structured step progression system and performance-based pay increases every 6 months up to $34.88 (Estimated $72,550 annually)

Job Purpose:

Perform preventative and maintenance repairs for OUC facilities and properties including, but not limited to, painting, drywall and wallpaper repair, door lock systems, plumbing and irrigation repair, electrical repairs, plumbing, knowledge of HVAC systems, fire alarm systems, elevator operation, minor carpentry and landscaping.

Primary Functions:

Perform general building repairs including:

  • electrical

  • carpentry

  • plumbing

  • painting

  • caulking

  • all types of door repairs (hanging or modifying)

  • drywall repair

  • fence and gate repair

  • wallpaper repair

  • furniture moving

  • irrigation repairs

Technical Requirements:

  • Knowledge of all facets of building/facility maintenance;

  • Electrical or skilled carpentry knowledge may be preferred depending on the area of assignment;

  • Strong problem solving, time management, and communication skills;

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to:

  • Interact with customers and co-workers effectively and provide a high level of customer service and satisfaction;

  • Carry out written and verbal instructions;

  • Learn and comply with OUC Safety practices and procedures;

  • Learn buildings’ alarm systems and elevator operation;

  • Multitask and adjust to changing priorities of tasks;

  • Take initiative to complete assigned tasks;

  • Make arithmetic computations using whole numbers, fractions and decimals, and compute rates, ratios, and percentages;

  • Use Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and standard office equipment (telephone, computer, copier, etc.);

  • Work well with team members and all levels of supervision;

  • Utilize tools and equipment safely and effectively.

Education/Certification/Years of Experience Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.

  • Must have a Florida Class A Commercial Drivers License or ability to obtain one within 6 months.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of facilities experience or educational equivalent.

Working Conditions:

This job requires willingness to work extended hours when required including nights, weekends, and holidays. This job occasionally requires working in confined areas, heights, and/or around excessive noise. This job rarely may be subject to working in extreme weather, and/or around noxious fumes, chemicals, and insects.

Physical Requirements:

This job includes very frequent standing, walking, sitting, bending/stooping, climbing, speaking & hearing (English). This job involves very frequent lifting of 0-20 lbs., frequent lifting of 21-40 lbs., occasional lifting of 50+ lbs. This job involves frequent pushing, pulling, and/or digging, reaching over head, kneeling/crawling, detailed inspection/reading/editing, and writing. This job requires regular use of company vehicles.
