We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineering Manager to lead our Landing Gear Systems group in Poway, CA. The Landing Gear Systems group is responsible for the development, qualification, and sustainment of landing gear including undercarriage arrangement, main gears, nose gears, rolling stock, braking systems and antiskid, shock absorbers, retract systems, and steering systems. The Engineering Manager will be responsible for overseeing the group’s engineering and design staff in executing support of GA-ASI’s platforms.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participates with technical staff, program managers, and executive management to develop and implement technical, schedule, quality, business, and financial objectives relating to landing gear systems.

  • Provide leadership and managerial support to team members including performance and salary management for staff.

  • Support and lead the engineering staff in the analysis, investigation, and resolution of engineering problems, including mentorship and oversight of reporting engineering leads.

  • Ensure technical leadership and excellence is maintained by directing and participating in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required professional and technical talent.

  • Demonstrate strong understanding of structural mechanics and dynamics, as well as mechanical hardware design, fabrication techniques, and test for aerospace applications.

  • Oversee the technical management of key subcontractors.

  • Responsible for decisions that impact the unit where erroneous recommendations could cause schedule delays and allocation of additional resources.

Job Qualifications:

  • Typically requires a Bachelors, Masters or PhD in engineering or a related technical field as well as eleven or more years of progressively complex engineering experience with at least five of those years having management responsibilities. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.

  • Subject matter expert in landing gear and braking systems design, integration, and qualification

  • Ability to resolve complex management and technical problems.

  • Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.

  • Ability to lead and work collaboratively in cross-disciplinary teams.

  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface within departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, and government representatives.

  • Experience with CAD and FEA software such as NX, Creo, and ANSYS is desired. Experience in dynamic system modelling and optimization also desired.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Secret clearance is required. Active Secret clearance is desired.
