Job Description:
General Responsibilities:
Conduct and participate in standard archeological work assignments as needed, including survey, background research, artifact and records processing, field excavations and monitoring, laboratory processing, and reporting as assigned. Assists with the execution of all phases of Terracon Cultural Resource projects. Cleans and maintains field and lab equipment and supplies. May assist other Terracon environmental service lines on projects. Adheres to strict safety standards.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Follow safety rules, guidelines and standards for all projects. Participate in pre-task planning. Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
Independently perform routine field tasks associated with survey and/or excavation, including shovel testing, documenting and cataloging, note taking, photographic documentation.
Help contribute to and carry out archaeological investigations of all types (pre-contact, historic, industrial, rural, urban) and phases (survey, evaluation, mitigation) to regulatory agency standards on projects located in Texas and adjacent areas and regions, as assigned.
Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
Requirements:
College degree in Anthropology or closely related field.
Previous field and laboratory experience including the equivalent of at least six months of CRM job experience.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
Ability to multi-task within flexible/fluid schedules and project needs.
Ability to perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, and walking on uneven surfaces carrying at least 20 lbs. of equipment, and ability to work in extreme (hot/cold) weather conditions
Valid driver’s license with acceptable violation history.
Eligibility to work in the United States without sponsorship
Ability to travel for overnight (including multiple days away) work assignments including out of town and out of state.
Ability to pass drug screening.
Preferred:
Experience with Trimble, ArcGIS, and other digital recording tools and platforms for use in the field
Willingness to participate in and support (as needed): routine laboratory tasks including washing and cataloging artifacts, creating inventories, processing records and associated documents; conduct background research including accessing the Sites Atlas and other on-line information resources; understands and can help complete curation requirements.
Willingness to participate in and support (as needed): support other non-archeological Environmental Planning projects, tasks, and activities as assigned.
Willingness and ability: to help supervise and coordinate field and laboratory crews; contribute to reporting by creating intelligible, technically appropriate written content.
Benefits:
Competitive hourly rates starting at $22/hr., commensurate with experience.
Per diem (rates vary by project), travel-time, and hotel accommodations are provided for out of town and/or out of state field projects.
