JOB SUMMARY

Performs mechanized equipment operations; operates various pieces of hydraulically operated equipment such as tractors, loaders, backhoes and dozers to cut, move and grade land materials to plan specifications and feature shaping judges; distances and slopes accurately to meet standards; utilizes hand levels, transits and lasers to check grades/elevations; ability to work independently and in cooperation with fellow employees to complete job tasks to specifications, and as a team leader for employee work groups.

Skid Steer and Mini Excavator Skills preferred

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Operates equipment safely with precision and efficiently to meet plan specifications and complete job tasks.

  • Operates tractors, loaders, trenchers, trackhoes, excavators, backhoes, scrapers and dozers with precision in close proximity to individuals on the ground.

  • Moves, loads, and spreads materials throughout the project site utilizing mechanized equipment; knows and does not exceed equipment limitations such as capacity and capability.

  • Performs and assists with feature shaping.

  • Operates tractors, loaders, trenchers, trackhoes, backhoes, scrapers and dozers in non-stable soil conditions and non-level ground terrain.

  • Performs preventative maintenance (e.g., fluid levels, greasing of parts, changing filters) and identifies performance and service needs.

  • Ensures proper working condition and production levels of all assigned equipment; ability to identify and troubleshoot improper equipment working conditions.

  • Trains others in equipment operation, maintenance and safety procedures.

  • Performs tasks using best practices, quality techniques and cost-effective methods.

  • Monitors the operation of assigned equipment to ensure proper working condition and production levels.

  • Provides training to other operators (Operator I, II, III) in equipment operation, maintenance and safety.

  • Performs work in a safe manner and in compliance with all Company safety standards and the directions of supervisors.

  • Demonstrates a commitment to the work and success of the project and the Company by being solution-oriented, having positive interactions with all members of the team, and meeting quality, production and safety expectations set by the supervisor or Superintendent

  • Performs additional assignments per supervisor’s directions.

  • Knowledge of golf course and or sportsfield construction tasks and execution sequence.

  • Knowledge of and ability to operate tractors, loaders, trenchers, trackhoes, excavators, backhoes, scrapers and dozers with precision in close proximity to individuals on the ground.

  • Ability to operate tractors, loaders, trenchers, trackhoes, backhoes, scrapers and dozers in non-stable soil conditions and non-level ground terrain.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply math i.e. percentages and square foot measurements as it is used in the construction industry.

  • Knowledge and ability to identify and perform preventative maintenance i.e. fluid levels, greasing of parts, changing filters; ability to identify performance and service needs.

  • Knowledge and ability to ensure proper working condition and production levels of all assigned equipment; ability to trouble shoot improper equipment working conditions.

  • Knowledge, ability, and willingness to train others in equipment operation, maintenance, and safety procedures.

  • Knowledge of and ability to apply safe operating procedures for assigned equipment.

  • Ability to distinguish between the physical properties of soils and knowledge of soil compaction methods; means and methods to execute and finish effectively.

  • Must maintain a professional appearance consistent with the position.

  • Ability to move individual tools and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds.

  • Ability to walk entire job site and stand or walk for long periods.

  • Ability to understand and follow basic verbal instructions to meet quality and accuracy standards and to communicate effectively with team member and supervisors.

  • Ability to perform tasks involving dexterous use of hands and tools and to lift, carry and operate various pieces of hand-held equipment.

  • Ability to use arms and hands to reach for, handle and manipulate objects; must be able to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.

  • Ability and willingness to follow all Company policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook and Safety Manual.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with fellow employees and supervisors and respect the rights of others.

  • Ability and willingness to work in outdoor elements: hot & cold temperatures, rain, mud, dust, noise, sun, thick underbrush, etc.

  • Requires average 55-hour workweek and willingness/ability to travel; regular and timely attendance during all scheduled work days and hours is required.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Five to seven years’ experience operating tractors, loaders, trenchers, trackhoes, backhoes, excavators, scrapers and dozers.

  • One to three years’ experience operating tractors, loaders, trenchers, track-hoes, backhoes, excavators, scrapers and dozers to complete golf course or sports field construction or earthwork construction operations such as land development.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Salary: $17.00 to $22.00 /hour DOE, plus housing
