Position summary: JMT is seeking a Traffic Design Engineer to join the York, Pennsylvania office. Responsible for traffic-related engineering design using knowledge of general engineering principles and practices to interpret, organize, execute and coordinate assignments.
Essential functions and responsibilities
Perform safety, capacity, and feasibility studies
Utilize various design software/tools (Synchro, HCS, and/or VISSIM) for traffic analysis for a variety of conditions to perform traffic modeling and analysis, including signal systems
Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography and other topographical data to plan projects
Perform design computations
Prepare technical reports which include traffic impact, transportation planning and traffic safety.
Work elements may include volume development calculations, crash evaluations/safety assessments and HSM analysis
Design traffic-related projects and/or project tasks in accordance with client specifications and guidelines using various design software and drawing tools (AutoCAD and/or MicroStation ORD)
Develop construction cost estimates
Assist in the preparation of engineering documents for advertisement and construction
Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline and established quality
Nonessential functions and responsibilities

Required Skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Ability to work effectively on a team, as well as working independently
Written and oral communication skills
Required Experience
Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from ABET accredited engineering program
3-7 years' experience with focus on Traffic Engineering
Experience with discipline-specific traffic modeling, analysis and design software
Preferred Experience
Professional Engineer License
Working knowledge in MicroStation, ORD, and/or AutoCAD
Experience in discipline specific design software
Related experience
Experience working with local clients at the county and state level
Working Conditions
Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25lbs) may be required as needed.
